The Cranhill Water Tower is a prominent landmark at the junction of Bellrock Street and Skerryvore Road, built in 1951 by F. A. MacDonald and partners and owned by Scottish Water. Skerryvore Road is better known as the birthplace of Malcolm and Angus Young of AC/DC.

The tower is one of several in the area built to provide drinking water pumped from Loch Katrine providing a gravity feed relying on hydrostatic pressure allowing for a pressurised water supply to local houses.

This tower is unusual because it is square in shape whereas most of the others nearby are cylindrical. The elevated water tank is made of concrete supported by steel pillars with a central square plan staircase in the centre of the structure to allow access.

There are wire sculptures at the base of the tower designed by Glasgow School of Art graduate Andy Scott, probably best known for the “Kelpies” at the Forth and Clyde Canal near the Falkirk Wheel.
