I made this screen print to mark (and get the measure of) moving into the new studio in the Glue Factory.

I've had a telescopic surveyor's staff in the studio for many years now. The staff is used by surveyors and engineers for precisely recording levels on building sites. I've never used it for its true purpose but I keep it in the studio because I like it!

One of the first jobs I had as a teenager in the school holidays in the seventies was as an engineer's assistant on motorway building sites. I often had to hold the staff while the engineer spied it from a distance through a super precise optical level, a kind of telescope.

In those days the title of my job was 'Chain Boy' and that's the title of this print.
